If you want to learn about woodworking, you’re in the right spot. The tips below are useful for any skill level. Read this article and practice the tips to develop your skills as a woodworker.
Spray Adhesive
You can make your own reusable sanding blocks. Use a scrap of 3/4″ plywood to cut six blocks, one for each sandpaper grit you need. Your blocks should be 2.5 x 4.75. Spray adhesive is what you use on both the blocks and cork tile square. Stick a block on your cork, then make certain you cut the cork flush with a utility knife. You can then spray adhesive on some sandpaper and place it on the corks. Trim your sandpaper so that it is even with the corks and label each block appropriately.
It seems like a sound idea to have a small ruler within one of your pockets, but you are bound to discover that it falls out any time you bend over. Get a metal ruler instead, as well as a small telescoping magnet for picking up loose screws. Keep them both in the same exact pocket. The magnet will keep both objects securely in place.
Golf Tee
If your interior doors have loose hinges, you can simply fix it with a golf tee. Remove the hinges and the door. Then, in the hole where the screws were, lightly hammer a common golf tee into the hole. Trim the golf tee to fit the hole, then put back the door. The screw has something to bite on with the golf tee.
Be sure you have a good blade before sawing. A dull blade makes good cutting impossible. It can also lead to you making an error that could cost you a lot of money, depending on the type of wood that you are using.
Choose the right size of nail for your project. If a nail is too thick it can split the wood, and this will stop it from holding properly. On the other hand, a nail that is too small will not penetrate and hold the wood together. Therefore, it is vital that you find the appropiate size nail for your project.
Add some springiness to your grip. Do you need to apply a spring clamp with a single hand? It is sometimes hard to get these things open when you’re only using a single hand. There is of course, one way to make that simpler. Prior to doing a glue-up, put your clamps on scrap wood with both hands. This makes it possible to use them with only one hand when you need to.
Keep an eye out for recycled wood. Many woodworking places discard their scraps and that could prove quite useful for your project. Home improvement stores, floor shops and other places frequently discard unused wood. Use this to your advantage as often as you can, there really is no reason not to. You can save money this way.
The tips you just read are great for any woodworker. Apply this knowledge to your next project. Now, go get started!
